“My father has owned a restaurant for 40 years, so I was born in the business and have always dreamt of running my own,” says actor Mahmut Suvakci, who’s opening up his first restaurant this month. A 50s-style diner in hamburger hotspot Hornsbergs Strand (just up the road from last year’s success, Flippin’ Burgers), Lily’s Burger will serve homemade “build-your-own” burgers, doughnuts made fresh every day, and of course no diner is complete without those milkshakes.
“Hamburgers are the main course of the whole world I think. And finally we have real American burgers here in Sweden.”
“I love that 50s look and I’d noticed there wasn’t any proper 50s American-style diner here. So I got really serious about collecting original 50s items, both by going over to the States to shop and by tracking down collector’s items here in Sweden. At Lily’s, everything’s going to be for sale. We don’t want to keep the restaurant looking the same all the time, but are continuously going to be remaking it.”
