A Look Back On 2017: In Vino Päritas

Posted December 28, 2017 in Food & Drink

Pär Strömberg is our resident wine expert at Totally Stockholm, and over the last twelve months he’s been out and about and chatting with the great and good, both new and old, of the Stockholm wine scene. Here’s a look back on 2017 via his column In Vino Päritas.

KLARA EARLINGH MANGESTRAND (GRO)

I believe that there’s an already ongoing trend of sustainability, and it’s something that has come to stay. What works in the long run and what is good for both the earth and for people.

ANNA RÖNNGREN (FRANTZEN)

I am a simple guest – just give me a good glass of wine and good service and I will be a happy camper.

SIGRID BÁRÁNY

I have loved wine since I got to taste a few drops in a thimble-sized glass as a child. It fascinates me that there is such a vast spectrum of flavours and many of them quite tickle the imagination. Stable, sweaty horse, sunny stone, salty sea breeze, anyone? You can paint a landscape with all those flavours. It’s like listening to a symphony, it evokes a lot of feelings. A perfect pairing can make you cry from sheer emotional overload. Wine gives you a lot of tools for expression.

PONTUS LINDQVIST (WINE WAVES)

Natural wines and the handcrafted movement have raised awareness and curiosity. Here in Sweden, people generally have great knowledge of the styles and tastes of both the ‘new’ and the ‘old world’. Maybe they are now looking for new challenges and experiences and with an openness to new regions, unique terroir and local grape varieties.

I’m way, way into gardening. Biodynamics, moon gardening, all of it. French gardeners are really advanced. Their moon gardening calendars have dates for when to cut your nails and wash your windows too. And of course the vignerons monitor everything so closely, and they can measure the results in actual money – like with the comet vintages, which I remember feeling giddy about when first reading about them. So, the natural wines speak to me.

BEATRICE BECHER & JONAS SANDBERG (FOLII)

We have worked hard together to try to find wines with some maturity and because we have very little room for large amounts of wine, it automatically becomes a very dynamic list. The food should be simple and good, lots of snacks that are wine friendly, and just like the wine list it changes frequently.

SOFIE STRANDBERG

I have always been a big fan of meat and when I was living in Argentina for a while that passion grew a lot because of the meat culture there. I can get really hard cravings for a good piece of meat, served rare of course, with just a simple avocado salad. I’m also a big fan of cheese. When it comes to other beverages I love a bottle of Carlsberg Hof or a Tuborg, preferably in the original glass bottles from Denmark, sparkling dry wine and a good dry cider.
