FILM: HILMA AF KLINT
Though for a long time abstract art’s origins were credited to men like Kandinsky, it was actually Swedish artist Hilma Af Klint that was a pioneer of the style. As well as her role as a pioneer of the field, Af Klint was a fascinating character, with her painting inspired by her interest in the occult and spiritualism. German filmmaker Halina Dyrschka’s documentary takes you into the life of the artist, and you can see it at Bio Rio this weekend.

CRAFTS: STOCKHOLM CRAFT WEEK
Contemporary crafts are in the spotlight this week, as Stockholm Craft Week comes to town. So from October 3-6, you’ll find exhibitions all over town showcasing every aspect of the world of craft art as it looks today. Examples include ‘Sexy Food’ by artist platform Dotdotdot, which sees artist interpret themes from Homer’s Odyssey.

FESTIVAL: TUGG
For the foodies, Teatern in Ringen Centrum is the place to be, when this year’s edition of the food festival Tugg takes place. The variety of restaurants on site will be celebrating with special limited edition dishes, workshops and drink tasting sessions, and as we’ve already mentioned, chef Mathias Dahlgren will be running a pop-up with his take on the best of Södermalm fast food.

GIG: BLACK MEKON/ CHERRY PICKLES
Birmingham rock’n’roll comes to Stockholm this weekend with a double bill at PNKSLM’s Friday night showcase at Södra Teatern. Howitzer garage rock gang Black Mekon headline, and they’re joined by scuzzy doo-wop duo Cherry Pickles. Before that, there’s an AW at Groggen DJ-ed by Les Big Byrd’s Jocke Åhlund.

GIG: VITA BERGEN/ VERO
Or if you’re looking for the local in your music this weekend, Vita Bergen and VERO are teaming up at Debaser. Vita Bergen, led by William Hellström, have been one of Sweden’s most promising indie acts for a while now, specialising in cosmic, dreamy indie, and having just come back from an Asian tour, they’re set for a big year in 2019 leading into 2020. Support comes from VERO, who we had a chat with back in summer.
