“Chocolate is like classical music and liquorice is like rock ‘n’ roll,” says Tuija Räsänen, initiator of the Stockholm Liquorice Festival and owner of sweets boutique Choklad & Lakrits.

In 2009, Tuija took the plunge and arranged a small liquorice festival, which attracted over a thousand visitors and was an instant hit. Four years later and the festival has grown considerably every year, all the while moving to bigger and bigger locations.

“The main goal of the festival is to gather the best of the liquorice world, including consumers, suppliers, manufacturers, lecturers, and creators in order to inform, try, taste and show the variety of new liquorice products on the market.

Some of the highlights we’ll see this year will be an exhibition titled ‘Liquorice Memories’, a new liquorice/bacon flavour from Lakritsfabriken, a luxury liquorice and sparkling wine tasting with Elisabeth Johansson (author of the newly released cookbook Liquorice) and a liquorice-themed spa!”
