The top ten Stockholm restaurants to eat at right now

“Where should I eat right now?” is the question we are most often asked by Stockholmers and visitors alike. That is why we bring you The Eat List, an “it list” for foodies.

The Eat List is for you – the flavour-crazy, produce-curious, restaurant-obsessed, and hotspot-hunting gastronaut that just can’t live without being exactly where the culinary action is. This is not a list of restaurant recommendations or reviews, nor is it a directory of the newcomers. The Eat List is a compilation of where the Stockholm foodies currently swarm and where you also should be *right this minute*. If you can get a table, that is. Eat away!

Paradiso

The aim of becoming Södermalm’s best neighbourhood joint isn’t a meek one, but together, Andreas and Felix Bergman, Joel Söderbäck and Simon Åhnberg have the potential to make Paradiso shine. Expect a dose of serious gastronomic rock and roll at this modern reinterpretation of a neighbourhood restaurant.

TheEatList_Carousel_01

Carousel

For those thirsting for a loud and happening night out, Carousel is the place. Run by close friends Christopher Ellertsson and Lukas Moderato, the corner restaurant feels more New York than (formerly) sleepy Gustav Adolfs torg. Carousel takes guests on a spin of Europe, focusing mainly on Spanish ingredients prepared with the Nordic season in mind.

Hillenberg

At Hillenberg, every single detail – from the well-executed acoustics and comfortable seating, right down to the design of the butter knives – has been thought of and hand-selected to create a dining experience that is personal, commodious and timeless. Restaurateur and chef Karl Ljung calls it “a place for grown-ups”.

Bistro Bananas

The burger is so last year, 2016 is all about pizza. So why not head over to Bistro Bananas, a trendy yet homely Södermalm spot that does the gourmet, stone oven pizza just how we like it – thin, flavourful and with lots of interesting toppings.

TheEatList_Imouto

Imouto

Just when we thought we were getting slightly blasé in terms of innovative dining concepts in Stockholm, Imouto pops up out of nowhere and blows our mind with its excellent sushi tasting menu, flawless service and (potentially) social setting. With only nine seats… hurry, hurry, hurry!

Woodstockholm Matbar

Not many foodies saw this one coming … Woodstockholm is, without a doubt, one of last year’s most pleasant culinary surprises, loved by the general public and critics alike. The neighbourhood hangout, which was conceived as a way to further spread the word of the Woodstockholm furniture brand, now also offers a superb meal by chef Elias Eriksson while trying out one of the designer chairs.

Lilla Ego

The Söder neighbourhood restaurant is the egotistical pursuit of chefs Tom Sjöstedt and Daniel Räms, but with a mission to create an unpretentious and generous spot where the focus is on good food, great personnel and a relaxed personal atmosphere. Foodwise, Lilla Ego is described as a hybrid between fine and “ugly” dining.

Nook

Street food meets fine dining at yet another Söder restaurant with high ambitions. Chef Claes Grännsjö’s casual dining room offers a multicultural gastronomic excursion that spans all over the map – in a good way. Bring out your inner explorer for this unique dining experience.

Frantzén

Ranked on the list of the world’s best restaurants and possessing two Michelin stars, it doesn’t get much better than Frantzén in Gamla Stan. Having completed a recent renovation, Björn Frantzén is back in the kitchen wowing 17 lucky guests with refined and creative dishes in a set menu.

Oaxen Krog & Slip

A meal at Oaxen can simply not go wrong. Whether one opts for the fine dining at Krog (now with two Michelin stars), or the Nordic bistro-like cuisine at Slip, there just is no way you’ll leave this quintessential Stockholm restaurant feeling anything other than great. At Oaxen, food is pure and simple pleasure.
