Does the future sound a lot like Kelela? It’s something people have been tipping since the artist, full name Kelela Mizanekristos, released the Cut 4 Me mixtape in 2014. Her sound exists somewhere in the mix zone of a series of modern genres, blending grime, dubstep and electronic R’n’B to make a slick, futuristic vision of pop. In 2017 she released her debut album Take Me Apart, which the Guardian described as “consistently exquisite as it dances between lovesick confusion and shrewd sensuality”. She plays Stockholm in December.
