In little over a year Bike in Tweed has grown to become Stockholm’s most eagerly-anticipated annual cycling event. Cykelhistoriska Föreningen, helped organize the inaugural event last autumn with considerable support from a range of enthusiasts and sponsors like  Martin Fredberg, from Gamla Stan’s Cykel.

“We knew Stockholmers would be interested in cycling while dressing elegantly but were surprised by people’s reaction,” Fredberg says. “Throngs turned out to show their support.”

Over 150 people of all ages, shapes and sizes participated and Fredberg, who teetered atop a vintage Penny Farthing during last year’s event, said he plans to do the same this year.

Participants and spectators will gather at Kungsträdgården at noon on October 6. The peloton will depart soon after and follow a 20km route that meanders through the city center at a leisurely pace. There will be frequent pit-stops and lots of time before and after the ride for a snack and a chat. The event will finish at 14.00 with an award ceremony on Stora Nygatan in Gamla Stan.

Cyclists of vintage as well as modern bikes are welcome to participate. The emphasis is on style and grace, so wear your Sunday best.
