GIG: BOY HARSHER
The project of American duo Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller, Boy Harsher have marked themselves out as artists of dark strange noise since their emergence in 2014 with the Lesser Man EP. Their world is one of harsh synth music, loaded with intensity and emotion that leans towards the colder, heavier side of human feelings and desires. 2019 has seen plenty of music from them, new album Careful along with a re-issue of their County Girl EP, so they’ll be loaded up for their Stockholm show, with support from Chasms.

CLUB: COMPACT LIVING CLUB
Compact Living Club is an example of forcing creativity from challenging circumstances. Run by magazine Profet Musik and Compact Disc Jockey, the set-up is pretty simple – squeezing 25 DJs into four hours of set time. And also – they have to play CDs. For this round, the first at Södra Teatern, they’re also promising a short live set from a mystery artist.

GIG: ALPACA SPORTS & HEY GLORIA
Indie pop and post-punk come to Landet this weekend. Alpaca Sports‘ most recent album, From Paris With Love, was written, as you might have guessed, after founding member Andreas Jonsson’s move to the French capital, and uses that city as a narrative base for their easy, dreamy jangle-pop. Hey Gloria are a much heavier band, with recent singles like En Kår Sekund showcasing their ability to punch with post-punk force.

FESTIVAL: SOUND OF STOCKHOLM
Now going into its tenth year since starting in 2010, Sound Of Stockholm is the city’s music festival for the artistically curious and bold, collecting together artists who are united by their desire to explore new sounds across several different genres. This year the festival takes places over four days, mainly focusing on Nordic artists but including faces from the US and Germany. The festival opens on Tuesday with American classical contemporary outfit Eighth Blackbird, and continues on Thursday and Friday before a full day of events on Saturday, starting with a baby rave at Fylkingen. The day continues with workshops and finally, the big shows with multiple artists at Slaktkyrkan and Hus 7.

MUSEUM: MODERNA MUSEET
Moderna Museet is home to over 140,000 works of art, which is far too many to fix into any museum space at once.  So like most museums, they’re always in constant flux, moving pieces between the exhibition halls and the storage rooms to give every piece its day in the sun and keep the collections fresh. But this year has marked one of their biggest reworks to date. This time out the whole museum has been rearranged, the collections reworked and the rooms remodelled. Now the collection display will be divided into different themes, or presentations of individual artists, given titles like ‘A room of one’s own’, ‘Collage and assemblage’ and ‘Eccentric abstraction’. The collection has also been expanded to include more work by female and Swedish artists. Gitte Ørskou, director of Moderna Museet, says “Moderna Museet has one of Europe’s finest collections of modern and contemporary art. Presenting it in a thematic chronology not only sheds new light on the individual works. Juxtaposing works from different eras also further reveals the timeless power of art to convey human thoughts and emotions”. This weekend, on Saturday November 23, the museum will be opening the newly arranged collections with a day party. There’ll be guided tours, artists talks and presentations and more.
