Sandra ‘Choco Canel’ Bergman is the mind behind Club Ethno Clash, which, as the name suggests, offers evenings where world music is the focus.  February 21 will also see two great bands up on stage at Debaser Medis.

SKA’N’SKA

Ska’N’Ska was formed in 2005 in Stockholm and have become one of Sweden’s most engaging and prominent ska bands. The euphoric mix of ska, gipsy punk, reggae and Latin has since attracted and retained a devoted audience both here in Sweden and all over the world.

Their career highlights are many, but worth mentioning are performances at the Swedsih Grammy Awards, Boomtown Fair (UK), supporting Eek-A-Mouse at Kägelbanan and Gota Basement, S! Esta Festival, Möllevångsfestivalen, Pantheon Rococó. As well as many more unforgettable concerts throughout Sweden, Norway, Germany and England. Over the years, SKA’N’SKA have released a number of singles and EPs and in 2010 they released their debut album SKA’N’SKA Gunshot Fanfare.

AWAJ COLLECTIVE

awaj

Awaj Collective deliver dance and inspirational songs with roots in reggae music. Roots, ska and dancehall is interspersed with the band members’ own musical influences – everything from soul and hip hop to all kinds of world music. Awaj means “sound” in Nepalese and when the band plays there’s plenty of that – from the audience as well as the stage. The band’s message of spreading good vibes comes up regularly in songs like Love is all, Recipe for love and Care Less and you’ll be hard pressed to find a frowning face at one of their gigs.  Over the years they’ve played at venues including Fasching, Mosebacke, Stampen, Curious Yellow, Babajan , Cyclops and many more.

Resident Sandra ‘Choco Canel’ Bergman will be playing an eclectic cocktail of Balkan, kletzmer, beats, funk, grime, jazz, bossa nova and more throughout the night.

Djnico will be providing backup to Choco Canel.  Since the 90s he has delivered a crazy and danceable mix that can be defined neither by geography nor genre. Hiphop from Oran, electro cumbia, Angolan techno, Russian ska, klezmer rock and Brazilian funk bound together by the common thread – rhythm and dancing pleasure!

Djnico has compiled several critically acclaimed compilation albums and performed very well-received gigs in the USA, Russia , France, Denmark , Senegal and around Sweden. He has been resident dj at clubs like Outernational, Re:Orient Club , Bollywood Ballroom and many more. So wax your mustache, put on the sailor suit, dig out your old grass skirt and let yourself loose to music you never even knew existed.

On the dance floor between 00-03 ‘Message in a Bottle will be putting on a classic Debaser Dance Floor:

“A message without the sender, which flows across the seas only to be spread: Message in a bottle.” This was the thought that struck Alexander Käsemann and Robert Aidehag when one summer night on the dock at the Old Town they sat and pondered why so much music was being played that lacked feeling.  With beer and quacking ducks for company they decided to become Sweden’s best indie pop and electro DJs.  Now they are well on track, and since that light summer night with the ducks, they have traveled all over Sweden getting everyone to dance to music with feeling. Everything from The Smiths, Broder Daniel, Håkan Hellström and Bastille is what they offer, and dancing is what you will do.
