Theatre. Utvandrarna
Vilhelm Molberg’s series of novels, Utvandrarna, is regarded as one of the definitive artistic accounts of the Swedish migration to America. The four books, focussing on the story of Karl Oskar Nilsson, his wife Kristina Johansdotter and their migration to the US to escape rural poverty in Sweden were voted (as a collection) the most important Swedish book of all time in an SVT poll in 1998. Rolf Lassgård and Stina Ekblad take the lead roles in this Dramaten stage adaption, playing the farmer couple who decide to flee the hardship of 1800s Sweden and emigrate to the US after the death of their daughter.
