As part of the ten-year anniversary of Swedish Fashion Talents, we spoke to some of the up-and-coming designers showcased by the group.

When you graduate from the Swedish Fashion Talents you get a degree in awesome and a stamp of approval form the fashion industry that is sure to take your brand into the future. Here are some of the graduates of the alma mater that have taken the fashion world – and closets everywhere – by storm.

Arethé

There can never be too much luxury in fashion and Arethé has certainly taken that stance and incorporated it into their progressive line of silk, fine cottons and other beautiful materials to adorn your body. Coming down the runway, the movement of the pieces is free-flowing, they seem to envelop the body like a warm breeze. The shapes may not be complicated, but the structures would rival any New York sky-rise and the juxtaposition makes for a line that is full of pieces that will make your closet your yearn for them.

Alina, one of the brands founders is happy with this comparison. “When I started, I loved Japanese high fashion – the thing is they are very complicated cuts that you almost need an instruction book to put together. I really wanted to do something that was a bit simple. I mix a lot of influences – I always mix Japanese high fashion in my collections but of course you always need new inspirations. For the 2016 summer collection it was skateboarding, concrete and asymmetric cuts, airy, and androgynous  I want to be easy to dress for any occasion. Wear it the office and wear it to drinks.”

WDEE

If you are bored with fashion right now, let me introduce you to WDEE, the glitched-out wonderful rock’n’roll mess sure to be a favourite among the artsy music set, nightlife crews and on stages everywhere. Take for instance a skirt made entirely of compact discs, or a purple fur and vinyl jacket. Despite the pieces being so elaborate, they are constructed expertly and are surprisingly easy and comfortable to wear.

“We were working patchwork techniques, doing glitch prints which are basically digital patchworks of a picture,” says Emma of WSEE. “We love street wear references, but want to work in a crafty way, so we want to update crafts by doing them in street wear.”

The girls graduated from the Swedish School of Textiles and have brought their unique background into innovative fabrics and combinations that will make your head spin. “We love glitter and metallics,” Emma says with a laugh.

A lot of the garments are put together square by square with big gaudy labels and bold presentations. The girls are only on their second collection but have already gained a reputation as being the brand to watch. How can you not.

MLTV Clothing consists of classic menswear items with a contemporary twist. For today’s modern man fashion is a burgeoning field, challenging the concepts of what a stylish man should be while broadening their wardrobe. MLTV Clothing has unisex vibes that blur minimalism with high-concept basic pieces. Anna Sjunnesson has created a line that today’s millennial man can enjoy, akin to walking off the set of the *Matrix* and stepping into a James Bond movie. Easy, versatile, unassuming but brilliantly stylish.
