Maybe you have already heard that the laws for Swedish gambling are changing. Previously casinos from Malta and the UK where allowed to target Swedish Players. From the 1st of January 2019 this is no longer the case. From now on if a casino wants to operate on the Swedish market they have to have a casino license from the Swedish Gaming Authority that is called Spelinspektionen. This also means that Svenska Spel no longer has monopoly on gambling in Sweden. The new Swedish casino regulation also means a lot of changes for the players. Here are some of the most important ones that you need to know about:

Verify your account within 30 days: Every player has to verify their account within 30 days from the date they first login or create a new account on a casino. This is easily done these days by logging in directly with your BankID. You can still do it the old way and send in documents that verify your identity.

Deposit limits: On each site you have an account you have to set a deposit limit and this includes both daily, weekly and monthly limits. This is a security measure to make sure you don’t spend more money than you planned to do in the first place.

Pause your account: Every Swedish player is now able to pause their account if they feel like they need to take a break from gambling. You can choose everything from 24 hours up til 30 days. If you make this choice you will be blocked on every gambling site with a Swedish license. This also includes playing in shops and other places that collaborates with ATG and Svenska Spel.

Keep track of your process: From now on you will get a reminder stating how long time you have spend at the casino and how much money you have won or lost. This is also a reminder that you set yourself to suit your needs.

Bonuses: The most important change is that casinos is now only allowed to give each player one bonus per account. This means you will no longer get those daily emails or texts with offers on deposit bonuses and free spins. You will only get the first welcome bonus. Even if you had a registered account on the site before 1st of January you will be seen as a new player and can take advantage of the bonus.

As a Swedish player you might still be able to play on some sites that doesn’t have a Swedish license. This is however illegal and should be avoided at all times. If you want to find out which casinos has been approved and offers casino with BankID, you can visit SvenskaKasinon.se and read more about them. There is also an official list at Spelinspektionens website which you will find by clicking on the following link: https://www.spelinspektionen.se/licensansokan/bolag-med-spellicens/. The license should also be visible at the homepage of the casino. Usually you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to find it.
