For those of you that haven’t heard of it, Temporära Konsthallen is a temporary art gallery for contemporary art in Stockholm. Since late winter, they have been located in a charismatic building from the 18th century in the Stockholm suburb of Nacka.
The two childhood friends from Karlstad – Anna “Stubborn”Asplind and Linda “Chaos On Two Legs” Karlsson as they describe themselves – behind the project say they learned to create what they thought was missing back in their hometown, and they started their own gallery since they felt no one was taking any risks anymore.
“Of course artists were – that’s part of their job – but it felt like some galleries were playing it safe by taking in mostly paintings and things that could sell. Our first exhibition was all pieces that couldn’t be bought. We use the gallery to quietly comment on what is going on around us,” Linda Karlsson says.
What are your plans for the summer?
We are excited about the current exhibition See Saw, with works by masters students from the Royal Institute of Arts, but that only runs until 16th of June. Concurrently we are running Temporära Konstbion where you can watch really nice art videos and documentaries.
The next exhibition A Promise of Gravel opens on June 25th. It’s a collaboration with the West Space gallery in Melbourne by artists Johanna Nordin and Marja Knape. On our spare time Anna will go to Iceland and Linda will go to Kungshatt (an island a bit closer to Stockholm).
What happens after that?
We will die in August. But be cool, we will be reborn somewhere else in Stockholm!
