Words by David Johansson

Just in time for the Norwegian national holiday, the country’s own Eddie Vedder is gracing Nalen with his presence. Perhaps he is best known as the incredibly powerful singer of rock band Madrugada, who split up after the death of lead guitarist and songwriter Robert Burås in 2007.

Since the last self-titled album of Madrugada, Høyem has been providing the fans of Madrugada with some rugged, Norwegian rock music as a solo artist. His albums have peaked the charts in his home country, and just recently released the album Endless Love.

Either before or after Madrugada, there’s not really been a singer as powerful and influential as Sivert Høyem. His voice seems almost androgyn, an all-knowing force that takes a hold of whoever’s listening, not willing to let go. Nalen knows this, and Høyem’s performance will without a doubt be a true pleasure for all the people involved. You don’t want to miss this.

Sivert Høyem is at Nalen on May 17.
