As someone who identifies both as queer and Christian, and hailing from the musical heartland of Memphis Tennessee, Julien Baker is often pitched as the voice of a new generation of musicians from the American South. But she wouldn’t have gotten to that position if she didn’t have songs, and those she has in abundance across two albums, 2015’s Sprained Ankle and 2017’s Turn Off The Lights. Baker makes a lot of little noise, often relying just on her voice and a little guitar to write star-dappled songs that have hit listeners all over. She comes to Kägelbanan in mid-September.
