David Lynch’s “Dune” Comes To Bio Rio

Dune

Depending on your point of view, David Lynch’s film adaption of the Frank Herbert novel Dune is either one of his greatest failures or bigger achievements. Lynch himself seems to think the former – he claimed pressure from producers had spoiled his final vision for the film and later had his name replaced in the credits by ‘Alan Smithee’, a pseudonym used by directors when, “dissatisfied with the final product, [they] proved to the satisfaction of a guild panel that [they] had not been able to exercise creative control over a film”.

Nevertheless, the film has since gone on to attract a cult following, drawn to its spectacular sprawling world, and its long, deep plot, following the conflict between two royal houses over the miracle mineral ‘The Spice’. Lynch regular Kyle MacLachlan plays the messainic nobelman Paul Atreides in the year 10191. It plays on Wednesday at Bio Rio, with tickets at 145kr.
