Penny & Bill Bartender Triumphs In Nordic Finals

Posted June 1, 2017 in Food & Drink

We introduced you to Stockholm gastrobar Penny & Bill when it opened in February by meeting their award-winning bartender Johan Evers. Now another of their bartenders has won a prestigious honour.  Josephine Sondlo has just beaten off eleven other competitors to win the Nordic round of the Diageo World Class bartender competition. The competition took place in Inverness in Scotland between May 22 and 25, and featured twelve bartenders from Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. After three different rounds, involving coffee, rum, whiskey and other liquors, Josephine triumphed with her cobber-cocktail with whiskey, rum and chai-te impressing the jury. Her reward is a ticket to compete in the global Diageo World Class finals in Mexico in August.

After her victory, Josephine said “It’s a feeling that I can’t compare with anything I’ve ever felt before. It’s the high-point of my career so far. I am obviously still surprised, but at the same time I also prepared myself extremely thoroughly before the competition. I am happy, dizzy and even a little stressed, because I know the real hard work begins now! I’m already thinking about which drinks I need to think about before the the global World Class finals in Mexico City in August”.

You’ll find Josephine and Penny & Bill at Grev Turegatan 30.
