In times when countless restaurants are born and bite the dust each year, we’d like to take up the cudgels for all those under-the-radar establishments that keep on delivering, year after year. Not that Grodan (“frog” in Swedish) is low-key in any way – it is located on Grev Turegatan, one of the city’s brashest streets.

Grodan, or La Grenouille (as it was called when it first opened in 1985), turned 30 on September 7. A few of our own very first gastronomic experiences involve this Stockholm classic, where the one dish to order is (and always has been) the leaf beef, served with grated horseradish, a raw egg yolk and French fries. Long live the frog.
