Veronica Nygren – Textil, konst och radikal design

By filling her textile art with experiences of everyday life and political awareness, Veronica Nygren became a well-known artist. She had a strong knowledge of Swedish artisan traditions, as well as global influences, helping her create a dialogue with art history and contemporary art.

For the first time, we get to see a retrospective exhibition of Nygren’s work, showing at the Thielska Gallery. Nygren was a relative of the banker and art collector Ernest Thiel, the founder of the gallery. We get to see patterns and designs for the company Mah-Jong, as well as more personal and experimental pictures, weaves and some public art. With this exhibition, the curators want to bring the traditionally ”female” art form into a larger perspective. Nygren’s art is heavily influenced by her radical political agenda that espoused a global perspective, making it still relevant today.
