Brant Bjork @ Debaser Strand, October 16

brant-bjork

Brant Bjork is mostly known for being the drummer and occasional songwriter of two of the most successful and pioneering stoner rock bands of the nineties: Fu Manchu and Kyuss. The latter were basically responsible for the stoner rock era that followed the release of the Kyuss album Blues for the Red Sun (1992).

Brant Bjork has released several solo albums, produced other artists yet still pursued his own drumming and songwriting. His contribution to several hits from Kyuss created a legitimacy as a songwriter and composer–something that’s certainly been in his favor through the years.

It might sound boring to just listen to stoner rock, with heavy focus on drums and little to no vocal input. This is sometimes true when it comes to Brant Bjork, but it must be stressed that the composition on basically each track is highly impressive and creative. The wonderful organ effects combined with wah wah heavy guitars creates a chill, yet intense sound image.

Brant Bjork plays Debaser Strand on October 16.
