Fetish Modernity at Etnografiska

Does the western world have a monopoly on being “modern”? And what really is “modernity” – there must be something more to it than a couple of Picassos, right?

Watch the concept being dissected at Etnografiska Museet this winter. Through photography, contemporary art and random finds from ethnological collections, the museum gives a thought-provoking walk through the exhibition’s theme. Some of the way-stations are the fabric of clichés, the longing for the modern and what the modern really is. Along the path we meet everything from cell phone caskets from Ghana to discussions of kitsch and the idea of “the other” being for sale in souvenir shops.
