ART: HERE WE GO LTTR: TENSTA KONSTHALL
LTTR is the name of a queerfeminist art collective in New York. In Tensta Konsthall’s exhibition ‘Here We Go: LTTR’ the collective and a number of its guests present a section of its work, ethos and a spread of the ideas flowing around it and its circle. Including film, art and photography, it’s well worth checking out.
LIVE: THIS IS HEAD/ HEY ELBOW @DEBASER STRAND
It’s been a long time coming, but after a steady drip-feed of singles This Is Head finally released their new, self-titled album this month. It proved worth the wait, as This Is Head is full of the dreamy, perfectly crafted soundscapes that the band specialise in. Saturday provides a welcome opportunity to see them run through the record live for the first time in Stockholm, with fellow Adrian Recordings (and also very, very good) act Hey Elbow.
CLUBBING: I’M ON A ROOF @SLAKTHUSET
The next free weeks and the inevitable drop in temperatures will provide a grim reminder that summer, sunshine and warmth are but temporary visitors to Stockholm. So it’s important to make the very most of it while it remains with us, and to catch on of the last roof parties of the summer. Saturday marks the last of Slakthuset’s ‘I’m On A Roof’ parties with music from DJ Pure P and DJ LoveStory, and it’s one of your last chances to get some Vitamin D while clubbing this year (alright, it is mostly at night, but you get the idea)
CLASSICAL: CARMEN @KUNGLIGA OPERAN
Carmen works in a tobacco shop in Seville, and attracts the attentions of Don José when her singing blows his mind. But they have conflicting natures, and suddenly a rival, the bullfighter Escamillo appears on the scene. The opera based on Prosper Merimee’s novel returns to Kungliga Operan, with the director Vincent Boussard.
THEATRE: CABARAT @STADSTEATERN
Christopher Isherwood’s collection of interconnected short stories, Goodbye To Berlin, is an absolute classic, a series of snapshots of the golden age of art and freedom the city experienced in the 1930s before the dread and fear of the Nazi era set in. It was later adopted into Cabaret, a smash-hit New York musical and later film. This performance, with the director Ronny Danielsson, sees Sally Bowles rise again and take to the stage in Stockholm.
COMEDY: STAND-UP @NORRA BRUNN
Norra Brunn Comedy Club lines up another set of top comedians for its stand-up this Saturday. With political correctness-defying Kurdistan-born comic Özz Nûjen, culture-comedian Martin Lagos and magician/comedian John Houdi, it promises to be an entertaining night.
