”You look at what happened last night in Sweden. Sweden! Who would believe this?”. This eye-raising statement by The Donald caused quite a stir, because no-one had any idea what he was referring to. Especially not here.

As a response, non-profit foundation Expressions of Humankind initiated The Last Night in Sweden project where Swedish photographers, including World Press Photo of the Year winner Paul Hansen, portray the country as it really is – “in its multiplicity, subtle textures, and political, social and cultural nuance”.

It’s a collection of brilliant, diverse images documenting everyday life across all layers of social status and walks of life, making it a profound and insightful portrayal of the country. This body of work is compiled into a photo book published by publishing house Max Ström, and is also an exhibition that can be seen at Fotografiska.

Last Night in Sweden is on display at Fotografiska until October 29.
