Weird fact: yes, this is where the name for that hat comes from. Fédora began life as a play by Victorien Sardou, where the hat worn by lead actress Sarah Bernhardt became popular under the play’s name. Umberto Giordano later gave the story greater fame when he transformed it into an opera in 1898. Fedora Romazov is a Russian princess who falls in love with her fiancé’s murderer, which leads to lies, drama, disaster and death on an epic scale. Star soprano Malin Byström takes the title role here as the doomed Russian princess.
