The Danish design chain Søstrene Grene started back in 1973 in Arhus, when couple Inger Grene and Knud Cresten Vaupell Olsen decided they wanted to open a boutique that aimed to be a playground for people who were creative and curious. As part of that slightly off-piste approach, he came up with the concept of the sisters Anna and Clara, characters whose personalities were meant to define the store, Anna’s dreamy and Clara’s practical.

Over 40 years later, the chain is here in Stockholm, and they’re about to double their presence in the city. With an outlet in Liljeholmens Gallerian, they’re adding another flagship store for Stockholm on Gamla Brogatan. The pitch is this – classical music on the speakers, winding, maze-like aisles of shelves packed with design items, small furniture pieces, kitchen items, odds and ends and more from all over the world.

CEO Mikkel Grene says “Since my parents started Søstrene Grene in 1973, we have tried to create boutiques that are more than just boutiques. We hope that a visit to one of our stores can be a bright spot on a regular day, and we want our customers to be able to find beautiful and unique products every time they come into the store. For that reason, we’re increasing our focus on our own design, and we have put together a large team of Scandinavian designers in our head office in Denmark. We are happy to be opening our 13th store in Sweden, and we hope that Stockholmers will be able to celebrate together with us during the opening of our new boutique”.

The new store opens at 10:00 on August 16.
