The indie-rock band, Lanterns on the Lake, formed in 2007 by a group of New-Castle natives. Their first album was put out in September of 2011. Two years later, this past fall of 2012, fans prayers were answered when Lanterns On The Lake followed up their debut  “Gracious Tide, Take Me Home” from 2011. Their original album was nothing short of amazing as it was showered with big words from credible magazines like Mojo , NME , Uncut and Q band.  Needless to say people were expecting big things from the much-anticipated follow-up. Web-magazine Drowned In Sound deemed the new album “one of the albums of the year,” noting the emotion through the very personal track list.

Coming from the northeast of England, where the landscape and history testifies to coal exports and ship nutrition, music has a big influence (Especially for those that are not showing to be a promising soccer player and have a chance to take a coveted spot in the city’s pride the Magpies, or Newcastle United FC).

The band released their albums on Bella Union where they are free to be as precise, delicate and dramatic as they desire. For those of you with a kinship to bands like Daughter, Low, Mazzy Star, Cocteau Twins, or maybe even Lana Del Rey might regard their aquitance with Lanterns On The Lake to be a mere fluke.
