Guns, cigarettes, girls and money – these are a few of Mob City’s favorite things. Today marks the premiere of Mob City, a special American mini-series showcasing on TNT. This new three-week event is brought to the TV screen by acclaimed filmmaker Frank Darabount, known for being behind Shawshank Redemption and AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Mob City was derived from John Buntin’s L.A. Noir, a book that holds true accounts by gangsters and police in 1947 Los Angeles, when violent crime ruled the city. Los Angeles was originally known by the name “El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles,” which means “The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels.” This California staple always held an intricate façade of beautiful celebrities, sunshine, orange groves and a protective police force. But behind the fantastical exterior was a hard core with political corruption, notorious gangsters, ruthless reporters, and the risqué women by their sides.

The story fixates on two of the powerful men in the city, one of which is the infamous gangster, Mickey Cohen, and the other being widely known LAPD chief, William Parker; both leaders fighting for control of L.A.

Starring in the series are actors John Bernthal, Milo Ventimiglia, Neal McDonough and Alex Davalos and many more. With some noteworthy acting and a great adaptation to screen, the series brings to light Los Angeles’s history regarding the Mob and the LAPD, in a more thrilling and suspenseful way than ever before.

Mob City premieres on January 25 on TNT at 21:00.
