SUMMARY:Exhibition Highlight: Alexander Klingspor
DESCRIPTION:Born in Stockholm in 1977\, Alexander Klingspor chose to skip a Swedish art education and instead do his learning in America. Inspired by Renaissance\, baroque and 1800’s realism\, he went to study realistic art and illustration under Mark English in Missouri. Now living in New York\, Klingspor turned that education in realism into a tool to create heavy\, hallucinogenic surrealistic works\, subjects depicted in rich detail but with reality oddly bent around them. Klingspor exhibits regularly in the US and UK\, and now Sweden has a chance to see his works with Resenär\, his new exhibition at Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde. \n“A life lived with one foot in the past and the other in the now is a life of questioning things. As an artist\, studying western art and its history is a reminder of how certain things remain the same. Happiness\, beauty\, desire\, vanity\, greed\, etc\, run like a red thread though all the ages\, as far as we can see. The time we live in is no exception. Resenär is a self-study in existential search through painting\, and a desire\, a pursuit\, after a meaningful relation to our world in a time of materialistic wealth and over-consumption”\, said Klingspor about the exhibition. \nWaldemarsudde’s Karin Sidén says “For an art institution like Waldemarsudde it’s a challenge to exhibit Klingspor’s work\, which opens up interesting reflections and conversations about the chosen art\, about figurative painting\, our time’s surrealism and the art scenes and art markets in the USA and in Sweden”. DESCRIPTION:Burgerdudes are a group of guys who have dedicated themselves to the noble task of reviewing as many burgers as is humanely possible (they’ve currently reviewed over 290 in Sweden and all over the world). They also host Stockholm’s annual burger celebration Stockholm Burger Fest\, coming back this year for its third edition. They’ve invited in two of London’s hottest burger restaurants\, Bleecker and Eat Lagom\, to Stockholm to provide the food for the two-day festival. And because we all know what goes well with burgers\, the bar Barrels Burgers & Beer will be providing the beer supply. There will also be vegan ad gluten-free options. The idea is this: there’s a loose plot\, the drama between the symbol characters the tiger and the swan\, which acts as narrative that holds together a journey through the band’s songs (both famous\, less well-known\, and completely new) and through three distinct parts\, Öknen\, Skogen and Staden (the desert\, the forest and the city). The Örebro-born producer made one of 2016’s best EPs with her debut (and hometown-hailing) Närke\, full of sharp\, smart emotional electronic pop. Now her debut album So Long has arrived (we spoke to her about it here)\, with early singles Manna Manna and Jävla 80-tal showcasing a strong development in her songwriting\, with subtle but infectious melodies in the foreground. DESCRIPTION:Alexandra Kollontai was one of the extraordinary figures who existed in the heat of the Russian Revolution\, graduating from revolutionary to member of the Soviet government and was even the Soviet ambassador to Sweden for a while. She was also a prominent feminist writer and proponent of new ideas of the family and free love. She wrote a novel about love during the Russian Revolution in 1923\, and that novel\, Red Love\, is the inspiration for this exhibition of the same name. Nearly 700 million Spotify streams and 600 million  YouTube views on that song alone later\, Lipa is now an established star in the pop stratosphere. She was booked in for a Stockholm show last year but had to cancel and move it to April\, and in in the time passed she’s only gotten bigger. DESCRIPTION:Popaganda’s plans for the year just keep on getting bigger. In addition to their usual late summer festival at Eriksdalbadet and mid-summer minifestival at Gälarparken\, they’ve now announced that they’re hosting a one-day festival at Färgfabriken in March. The festival will feature two stages\, which has given them the opportunity to pack the line-up with some of the best indie bands around. At the top of the bill are Hurula and artpop star Sibille Attar\, newly signed to PNKSLM. Then there’s Gothenburg rock duo Pale Honey\, scrappy indie stars Holy Now\, high-octane rock-pop trio VERO and murky night-pop gang Brödet.
