DESCRIPTION:Last year marked the return of the legendary Neneh Cherry with a new album Broken Politics.  As you can guess from the title\, the new album is a political record\, and she has described lead single Kong as a protest song against the injustices refugees are having to suffer\, especially in the camp in Calais. “There are a lot of children [there] who were alone\, mid-journey without their parents\, They were supposed to take them to England\, but it never happened. People think that refugees come to places to take advantage of them – and don’t think about how they’re leaving behind things they love. I’m trying to paint a picture and put myself in the story\, and the song is about putting myself in the same position as someone who doesn’t want to leave the place they are”. Produced by Massive Attack’s 3D and Four Tet\, the album draws its inspiration from a lighter\, brighter version of the trip-hop that crew were putting out in the 90s\, soft\, mesmeric electronica. DESCRIPTION:Here’s an exhibition that’s obligatory for the photographer nerds. The Hasselblad Foundation’s collection provides the source material for Sven Harry’s new exhibition Here’s Looking At You\, curated by the cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema (known for his work on films like Her\, Interstellar\, Spectre). The exhibition’s main obsession is the intimacy of eye contact\, as the photographs’ subjects stare down the camera and out at the viewer. “When the museum was granted access to the Hasselblad Foundation’s unique collection of photographs\, we asked ourselves how we could best create a unique show and a whole new way to experience photography”\, says Dragana Kusoffsky Maksimović\, CEO of Sven-Harry’s. “We realised that what we were looking for was a curator who could interpret the collection in a completely new and exciting way. With this in mind\, choosing Hoyte van Hoytema\, a brilliant cinematographer\, felt just right and we’re very happy about and grateful for his participation and contribution to the exhibition. SUMMARY:Exhibition Highlight: Expressionist Masterpieces
DESCRIPTION:Early twentieth-century Germany was the home of expressionism\, and this exhibition at Millesgården brings a sample of that output to Stockholm\, courtesy of a loan from the Aargauer Kunsthaus in Swittzerland and the Osthaus-Museum Hagen collection in Germany. It features over 150 works produced between 1905 and 1938 from artists including Emil Nolde\, Otto Mueller and Max Pechstein and groups like Der Blaue Reiter and Die Brücke. DESCRIPTION:The Norwegian artist Anja Niemi specialises in what are dubbed “tableaux-vivants”\, photos that relyi on the painstaking construction of a landscape of detail that creates the impression of a whole story or event wrapped in one photo. Niemi says: “When I was younger I always had many ideas\, but no coherent way to express them. That I was dyslexic and had anxiety was a big obstacle. When I discovered photography I began to realise that I could tell stories without words\, and translate the ideas in my head to something tangible”. And like another Tennessee classic\, it later became a film with Marlon Brando in the lead role. DESCRIPTION:Anton Vidokle is an artist with an impressive CV\, having founded the digital publishing platform e-flux way back in the early days of the internet in 1998. This new exhibition at Tensta Konsthall features three of his films that investigate the concept of Russian Cosmism\, an early 20th century philosophical movement that took in a wide range of ideas and later influenced early Soviet cultural institutions.
